Yesterday I did an insanity workout and am I paying for it today! My legs are super sore because we did the cardio routine and the power jumps to belt kick combo definitely killed me. So this morning instead of taking a shower I decided to take a bath, not an ordinary bath a salt bath, epsom salt.
When I was young I sprained my ankle from soccer, my parents simply soaked my foot and leg in a bath. They added epsom salt to the warm bath and I just soaked my leg for about 10-15 minutes. When I woke up this morning, for some reason this came to my head and I decided to soak my body, I was sore.
The bath consisted of just warm water and some epsom salt. I laid there listening to music for 10 minutes and then just did a quick shower. Why did I think of taking a salt bath? Well because I treated a pain when I was younger. I thought to myself if it helped with my sprained ankle why not muscle tensions and soreness?
During the warm bath I felt my body adjust to the water and I can feel relief from the bath. I was relaxed and during my bath my muscles felt normal, not tensed. I also did some leg stretches, as my legs are the most sore, in the bath and it also helped.
Epsom salt helps relieves tension and reduces swelling, since essentially your muscles are swollen when you finish a workout – this theory does make sense. The bath I had earlier today was very comforting and definitely helped with my soreness I had. I finished my bath and simply took a quick shower.
I felt relieved.
The purpose of the bath was not to just enjoy myself but it was therapeutic. Again I took a memory from my childhood, mainly when I played sports, and applied it to my current situation. I was in pure pain this morning after a crazy insanity workout yesterday. My whole lower body was tense. The combinations of Power Jumps + Belt Kicks was intense.
I needed to relax and relieve my muscles pain, so I figured an epsom salt bath would be the key to my relaxation for the day and it helped. The bath has definitely helped with my soreness this morning.
